Renewable Energy Systems UK Limited (RES) has welcomed the ruling today by the Court of Session to refuse an appeal by Moray Council against the Scottish Executive’s decision in February 2005 to approve the 42MW Drummuir wind farm near Keith in Banffshire, Scotland.
Andy Paine, Director of Renewable Energy Systems UK Ltd, commented;
"We are delighted that we can now progress with the project. When the Scottish Executive approved Drummuir wind farm after an exhaustive public inquiry, it was in recognition that wind turbines are acceptable in a working rural environment and we are pleased that our choice of site has been justified by the court’s decision. Drummuir wind farm can now make a significant contribution to efforts to cut greenhouse gas emissions and increase our energy security. It will generate electricity equivalent to the annual needs of over 21,000 homes and account for 3% of the Scottish Executive’s 2010 target for renewable energy.
We are also now more confident that Scottish grid issues are on their way to being resolved, following the publication of the Energy Review earlier this week. We shall be examining the construction timescale for the project to establish the earliest possible connection date."
