Taralga Wind Power Project Approved

The Taralga wind power project in New South Wales, Australia, has been granted development approval
by the State Planning Minister, RES Southern Cross Pty Ltd announced on Friday. The project is located on rural grazing land in NSW Southern Highlands around 140km south west of Sydney.

The project has been under development since 2002 and a development application was submitted in
November 2004. The approval is for up to 54 turbines each with 2MW capacity.

Colin Liebmann of RES Southern Cross Pty Ltd said:

"We are delighted to win approval for the Taralga wind project. It is an excellent location with good wind speeds and reasonable distance to the electricity grid. It has been carefully designed to bring maximum power generation from a sustainable source with minimum impact on nearby residents and the environment. The project will generate clean, green energy to meet the needs of 38,000 homes every year and bring economic benefits to the area. We already have a database of local contractors who have put their hands up to work on the project."

Benefits include reliable new income to landowners, and employment for local contractors during the
17-month construction period. RES Southern Cross has also committed to install as part of construction
of the project a new $100,000 television re-transmitter to improve reception for all local residents. The
project will cut greenhouse gas emissions by 257,000 tonnes per annum and contribute to state and
federal efforts to slow down the effects of climate change.

Ian Mays, Managing Director of the RES Group, commented;

“Having identified Australia as possessing huge potential for wind power and established a base there in 2003, we are delighted to see our first Australian project approved. It is a significant milestone for the RES Group and we look forward to the start of construction."

RES Southern Cross Pty has a portfolio of between 300 and 400MW of wind power capacity currently
under development in New South Wales. RES Australia also has a further 300MW under development
elsewhere throughout Australia.

Notes to Editors
1. RES Southern Cross Pty Ltd is a joint venture between Renewable Energy Systems Australia Pty Ltd (RES Australia) and Southern Cross Windpower Limited. Southern Cross Windpower is an Australian company that has been operating as a windfarm developer in New South Wales since 2001 with an established portfolio of wind farm development sites in the State and considerable experience in wind energy development in the UK and Australia. RES Australia is a wholly owned member of the Renewable Energy Systems Group (RES Group), one of the world’s leading wind energy companies, covering development, construction and operation of wind farms. Part of the large British construction group Sir Robert McAlpine, RES has been at the forefront of the wind energy market for more than twenty years and has constructed over 1,000MW of installed wind energy capacity worldwide. RES Australia has been based in Sydney since December 2003.
2. The Australian Government established a Mandatory Renewable Energy Target through its Renewable Energy (Electricity) Act 2000, which requires electricity retailers and other large buyers of electricity to collectively source an additional 9,500 gigawatt hours of electricity per annum from renewable sources by 2010. The State of New South Wales is aiming to encourage the development of sustainable and environmentally friendly industries. The growth of the wind energy market in New South Wales and elsewhere in Australia will bring employment benefits in manufacturing, engineering and services, as well as helping to meet targets for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
