Castlecraig Wind Farm, Drumquin,
Co. Tyrone
Castlecraig Planning Ref K/2006/1934 validated January 2007
RES UK & Ireland is proposing to develop a wind farm of up to 25 turbines on Castlecraig (Slieve Glass) in the townlands of Castlecraig, Curraghmacall, Killoan and Sloughan. The proposed site lies approximately 5 km west of Drumquin and 5 km south of Killen. The wind farm will generate enough renewable and pollution free electricity to meet the domestic electricity needs around 42,000 homes every year. They will also reduce emissions of carbon dioxide, the main greenhouse gas, by an estimated 110,000 tonnes annually.
Public Information Programme
As part of the public information programme for Castlecraig we distributed a total of 440 information packs about the proposal to political representatives, community groups, churches, businesses, national organisations and local householders. We left information with the 110 houses closest to the site, (Braden, Sloughan, Wilmont, Barravy, Lettercarn, Kilmore and Meencargagh Roads) and managed to speak to 20 householders in person. We spoke to local councillors and held public exhibitions in Drumquin and Killen in November 2006, so that members of the public could find out more about the proposal.
