Proposed Keadby Wind Farm
In October 2003 Renewable
Energy Systems (RES) applied to The Department of Trade and Industry
under Section 36 Electricity Act 1989 for consent to construct a wind
farm comprising 39 wind turbines on land near Keadby Power Station in
North Lincolnshire. The number of turbines was subsequently reduced to 34 and, following objections from North Lincolnshire Council, the revised proposal is now to be considered at a Public Enquiry commencing in January 2007.
The site lies on flat agricultural land between Crowle
(3km to the west), and Scunthorpe (5km to the south-east) close to the
River Trent.
The turbines proposed would have a tubular tower and be three bladed with an overall height to blade tip not exceeding 125m with a nominal rated output of up to 2.5MW each.
The proposed development will also have
associated electricity transformers, access tracks and site entrances, substation
compound and control building and two wind monitoring masts. Construction
of the wind farm should take approximately 12 months. The wind farm should
produce enough energy to provide electricity to over 38,000 homes.
This wind farm application was submitted with a full Environmental Impact
Statement in 2003, followed by a Supplementary Environmental Information (SEI) in 2006.
As part of the public consultation process, a newsletter was produced prior
to the planning submission and was distributed to approximately 7,400 business
and residential addresses within 5km of the site boundary.
