Proposed Minnygap Wind Farm
In May 2005 RES Developments
Ltd (RES) applied to Dumfries and Galloway Council for consent to construct
a wind farm comprising 15 wind turbines on land on Annandale Estate.
The site lies to the immediate east of the Forest of Ae and spans the
rolling summits of Minnygap Heights, Bog Shaw and Hangingshaw Hill.
The turbines proposed would have a tubular tower and be three bladed
with an overall height to blade tip not exceeding 125m with a nominal
rated output of 2000kW (2MW) each. This height has been selected following
consultation with relevant authorities who have advised adopting the
same dimensions as are being proposed by CRE Energy (a Scottish Power Company) in
its application for a significantly larger wind farm within the Forest
of Ae. The proposed development will also have associated electricity transformers,
access tracks and site entrance, substation compound and control building,
up to 2 temporary borrow pits and a wind monitoring mast. Construction
of the wind farm should take approximately 12 months. The wind farm would
produce enough energy to provide electricity to over 15,500 homes.
This wind farm application was submitted with a full Environmental Statement.
As part of the public consultation process, a newsletter [384kB] was produced
prior to the planning submission and was distributed to approximately 1,000
business and residential addresses within 10km of the site boundary.
